Next course: March 21st, 8am to 2pm, EMAIL or call 01323 720640
We had a fantastic day on Saturday February 27th, with our group of Marathon Runners.
We met at the wonderful Guesthouse East, where Carl and Sarah our hosts, let us drop off bags, trainers and shoes at our brilliant, seafront base for the day.
We started the day at 8am with a V02 max multi-stage fitness test at the University of Brighton, otherwise known as the beep test. This test helps us give runners an idea of their aerobic fitness, and they can check out potential for race times and training paces online at sites such as www.runningforfitness.org. After the V02 max test, we talked about scheduling and planning marathon training, explaining how to periodize their schedules, so that they can get the best from their training in three monthly training blocks. We discussed individual training programmes and fine-tuned weekly plans and goals.
After that, it was onto the seafront for the 1500m pace test. It was great to see how fit our group were – I don’t think they knew themselves how fit they were – marathon training does that to you! Makes you so tired at tmes, that you don’t feel the benefits of your training until you rest.
Next we talked through what to eat before, during and after the marathon! We were lucky to have a glimpse into the world of Paul’s Potions, inlcuding, a teaspoon of bicarbonate soda to prevent cramps, and the virtues of beetroot juice… we’ll be trying them Paul!
The hilly long run on our beautiful South Downs followed, then it was massage, eat – and sleep! Our next course is on March 21st – hope to see you there, email us for more information.
